REVIEW: “Bold” by Julia Swift & Andrew Landis

BoldBold by
Julia Swift & Andrew Landis

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thought this was a really beautiful story. The two main characters, both responsible for narrating their own points of view, are drawn incredibly well. Sometimes in stories of this nature I find the obstacles in the young lover’s path either contrived or forced – not the case here. I totally related with both of these teenagers’ struggles, inner conflicts, and desires to find their place. The story is authentic and grounded – but also brave.

The prose was spare, precise, and moving. I really felt the pull between these two characters and rooted for them throughout the story. Excellent work from both authors, and while this may be their first novel, they are clearly expert story tellers. I cannot wait to read the next story they bring to life.

INDIE SPOTLIGHT: Deborah Jay

Hello all!  I’m very excited to share with you the cover of Deborah Jay’s new novel The Prince’s Man.

Having worked with her on the cover, I’m so excited to read her book!  But I digress – this is about the cover reveal.

And here it is:

"The Prince's Man" by Deborah Jay

To celebrate her book launch, Gliterary Girl Media is also doing a Rafflecopter giveaway of a $10 Amazon Gift Card.  Click the link to enter, and good luck!

And I’d like to wish Deborah good luck with her book launch!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Award winning novel, The Prince’s Man, has been described as ‘James Bond meets Lord of the Rings’ – a sweeping tale of spies and deadly politics, inter-species mistrust and magic phobia, with an underlying thread of romance.

Rustam Chalice, hedonist, dance tutor and spy, loves his life, never better than when he’s bedding a gorgeous woman. So when the kingdom he serves is threatened from within, he leaps into action. Only trouble is, the spy master, Prince Hal, teams him up with an untouchable aristocratic assassin who despises him.

And to make matters worse, she’s the most beautiful woman in the Five Kingdoms.

Plunged into a desperate journey over the mountains, the mismatched pair struggle to survive deadly wildlife, the machinations of a spiteful god – and each other.

They must also keep alive a sickly elf they need as a political pawn. But when the elf reveals that Rustam has magic of his own, he is forced to question his identity, his sanity and worst, his loyalty to his prince.

For in Tyr-en, all magic users are put to death.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Deborah Jay writes fast-paced fantasy adventures featuring quirky characters and multilayered plots – just what she likes to read. Living mostly on the UK South coast, she has already invested in her ultimate retirement plan – a farmhouse in the majestic, mystery-filled Scottish Highlands where she retreats to write when she can find time. Her taste for the good things in life is kept in check by the expense of keeping too many dressage horses, and her complete inability to cook.

This summer will see publication of her debut novel, THE PRINCE’S MAN, the first in a trilogy and winner of a UK Arts Board award. She also has non-fiction equestrian titles published under the name Debby Lush.

Back To The Drawing Board…

Thank you again to everyone who helped get the word out about Thrall and Incubus – sincerely, you guys are amazing.

So, now that the Free Promo push for Thrall is over and Incubus is officially published, I get to turn my attention to the third and final book of this trilogy, Sacrifice.

I try to live in the outline phase as long as needed.  My hope is to solve story and character problems before I dive into pages.

And then I get into pages and things inevitably change. That doesn’t, however, alter my feelings about the importance of outlining.

I’ll have a cover reveal for you in the fall.  Until then, I’m pretty much going to be locked in a death-match with this outline.  Wish me luck.

Happy summer!

“Incubus” – First Draft Finished

I just finished the first draft of Incubus.

Every time I finish a first draft I am simultaneously thrilled and terrified.  Thrilled because, hey, I finished a first draft!  Terrified because the next step is to sit down and read it.

It could be great (fingers crossed!), or it could be wretched (it’s happened before).  Usually it’s somewhere in between, and after I’ve read the first draft I’ll have a good idea of what kind of rewrite process I’m facing.

So tomorrow I’ll read it through and see.  But tonight?  I’m pouring myself a glass of wine.
